Latest UFC 230 fight card, rumors, and updates for ‘Cormier vs Lewis’ PPV on Nov. 3 in New York

If this talk of a bum hand was coming from anyone other than Daniel Cormier, I would wonder if the groundwork was being laid for a possible last-minute scratch. But “DC” didn’t become the “greatest” heavyweight and light heavyweight champion by riding the pine.
And maybe he’s trying to add a little extra drama to the fight, since bookies don’t give opponent Derrick Lewis much chance of winning when they collide in the UFC 230 pay-per-view (PPV) main event next month in New York City.

“It’s good enough to fight,” Cormier told The MMA Hour. “It’s not 100 percent, I’m going to be honest. My fist is closing but not all the way. It feels like now I have like a badly jammed finger. I can do a lot of things. Some sparring. I’m just not hitting as hard with my right hand. I can wrestle, but I’m just trying to be very careful. I’m kinda working around it, because if something’s going to happen, I prefer it to happen in the fight than in the training room. Because how horrible would be it be if I take this fight, three weeks until the fight, and then have to pull out a week later?”
Cormier accepted the Lewis fight on short notice after the promotion failed to cobble together a suitable main event. Valentina Shevchenko vs. Sijara Eubanks was on the table, but fan backlash sent “coward” matchmakers back to the drawing board.
